About Us

Our Journey

Formerly Muskegon Co-op Federal Credit Union. We decided to change our name to give us a fresh new look and create a name that better reflects the community and members we serve. Our name and signs have changed, but we are still the same great community financial institution you trust, providing the service you love. We have 75 years of serving our members and our community along the lakeshore, and we will continue to provide exceptional member service and great rates.

Credit Unions are non-profit financial institutions, owned and operated by their members. We have a democratic structure with a voluntary Board of Directors that is elected by our members. Route 31 Credit Union was chartered in 1949 as a co-operative credit union with a sponsoring Co-op food store. Credit union membership was open to members of the Co-op store who lived or worked in Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa and Newaygo counties. As time passed, Co-Optical Service became the main sponsor base and anyone that lived or worked in Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa, or Newaygo counties could join.  We are now open to anyone that lives, worships, works in, or attends school in any of the following 17 counties; Muskegon, Ottawa, Oceana, Newaygo, Antrim, Benzie, Gratiot, Kalkaska, Lake, Leelanau, Manistee, Mason, Mecosta, Missaukee, Montcalm, Osceola or Wexford.

FAQs

Please see these Frequently Asked Questions for more answers or call (231) 726-4871.

We decided to change our name to give us a fresh new look and create a name that better reflected the community and members that we serve. The existing name is too long. Route 31 Credit Union is simple and more memorable.

The effective date for the name change to Route 31 Credit Union is Monday, August 15, 2022. Follow the credit union Facebook and Instagram pages or our website for updates.

No, the credit union is still owned and operated by our members, still employs the same talented people, and is still committed to bringing the best member service to our community. We are the same credit union that was established in 1949, but we just have a new name and fresh brand.

No, your member number(s) and routing number will remain the same.

No, all direct deposits, payroll deductions, automatic drafts and other ACH services are transmitted using the credit union’s routing number and your account number. Since these numbers are not changing, your payments will not be affected in any way.

The phone numbers will stay the same, but our email addresses will now end with “@route31cu.com”. Emails sent to our old email addresses will be temporarily forwarded to our new email addresses. The new website address is www.route31cu.com. If you visit the old website address, it will temporarily re-direct you to the new Route 31 CU website.

Your login information for the mobile app and It’sMe247 will not change.

If you use a Bill Pay service outside of Route 31’s online Bill Pay and you have payments sent to us, you may have to update our name in their system. Also, be sure that you are sending payments to our new address at 715 Terrace St., Ste. 101, Muskegon, MI 49440.

Yes, you can continue to use your Muskegon Co-op checks and deposit slips. When you order new checks, they will be updated with our new name and logo.

Your ATM, Debit and Credit cards will continue to work as normal until the expiration date. When your card expires and comes up for review after August 15, 2022, or needs to be replaced for any reason, you will be given a new Route 31 Credit Union card.

If your loan was done more recently, it will most likely change on your credit report to our new name, Route 31 Credit Union. This change may not happen right away. However, if the loan is older or has been paid off, it will show as Muskegon Co-op Federal Credit Union. The credit union changing names will not affect your credit score.

No, the credit union will continue to provide competitive rates on loans and deposits and minimize our fees. We recently reduced and removed fees because we are in a good financial position to do so and help benefit our members. Rates and fees do fluctuate, but they are due to changes in market conditions.

There will be little to no impact on the member. All accounts will continue to work as normal and will have the same account numbers and you will continue to have the same access to all our products and services.

If you are using the credit union mobile app no action is necessary if your phone is set to automatically update apps. If you are not set up for automatic updates, go into your app store to update the app. Once updated you will see the new logo and colors.

If you send your loan payment to the credit union via check, you will need to make checks payable to Route 31 Credit Union.
